The Feast of Holy and Glorious Great Martyr Saint Demetrius 2022

On Monday October 25/November 7, His Eminence celebrated the vigil service in honor of the Holy and Glorious Great Martyr Demetrius, together with clergy of the Metropolis, monastics, and faithful. The compassionate service was made brilliant by the grace of the prizewinner, according to the monastic tradition. Many faithful came from different parts of the country to honor the saint, and to support our Archpastor, His Eminence Demetrius.

In the morning of the next day, a festive Hierarchical Liturgy was served by His Eminence, together with His Grace Bishop Christodoulos, and clergy of the Metropolis and Monastery. A festive meal was celebrated thereafter. After the meal, the traditional “Panagia” service was held in the trapeza. From there, the faithful processed back to the main Church of the Monastery, to complete the services of the day with the canon to St. Demetrius and the “polychronio” to His Eminence, according to the tradition of the Holy Mountain of Athos.

We wish His Eminence many blessed years, and through the prayers of Saint Demetrius, may he continue to guide us along the path of salvation.

Saints Peter and Paul Orthodox Mission, Tucson, Arizona

Saints Peter and Paul Orthodox Church is a beautiful mission parish near downtown Tucson, a city in southern Arizona. It was started in 1997 by Father John Bockman, who was a missionary Priest formerly serving missions in Tennessee and Massachusetts since 1990. Father John served the faithful in Tucson and the surrounding area in his home Chapel until his repose in November of 2000. His wife, Presbytera Valerie, continued to make her home Chapel available for the mission, with clergy from Saint Nectarios Orthodox Church in Seattle and His Eminence, Metropolitan Moses of Toronto (then of Portland), visiting to provide the Divine Services.

Ask A Priest

Forty Day Memorial Service

Q. Can you please explain the significance of the forty day memorial service? An Evangelical family asked one of our relatives that question. We said that it’s best to ask a clergy member. Thank you in advance for your response. (We will forward it to them as soon as possible).
