Visit of Archbishop Kallinikos to North America

At the invitation of His Eminence Metropolitan Pavlos of America, His Beatitude Archbishop Kallinikos of the G.O.C. of Athens and all Greece will visit America and Canada from Friday September 28th until Monday October 8th 2012, accompanied by His Eminence Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Attica and Boeotia and His Grace Bishop Photios of Marathon, Chief-Secretary of the Holy Synod.

The Archbishop and his entourage will arrive in NY on Friday, September 28th, where he will preside over a meeting of the Eparchial Synod on Monday. The Holy Eparchial Synod in America includes Their Eminences, Metropolitan Pavlos of North and South America and Metropolitan Moses of Portland and the Western United States, and Their Graces, Bishop Photios of Marathon, Bishop Christodoulos of Theoupolis, Bishop Sergios of Loch Lomond and Bishop Demetrius of Boston.

Is the GOC Insular?

Q. In considering becoming part of the GOC in America, I am getting warnings from various circles that the attitude of GOC people is that of being “walled off,” “arrogant,” “judgmental,” and “in your face” toward those not in the Genuine Orthodox Church, with accusations such as “World Orthodox” priests are “not even Christians” and the like. Could you give me your personal, realistic assessment of this dynamic and possibly refer me to an official statement on how GOC members should and do relate to and communicate with those in “World Orthodoxy”?
