Visit of Metropolitan Photios 2018

The Holy Metropolis of America was recently blessed with the visit of His Eminence Metropolitan Photios of Demetrias, a member of the Holy Eparchial Synod of America.

His Eminence arrived on Thursday, June 8/21. On Saturday, June 10/23,he visited the Convent of Saint Syncletike in Long Island, New York, on their Feast Day. The next day, Sunday, June 11/24, he served at the Cathedral of Saint Markella in Astoria, New York.

Metropolitan Photios also attended the Clergy Synaxis and was at the Feast Day of the Monastery of St. John of San Francisco in Cobleskill, New York, on Saturday, June 17/30.

We mustn’t have absolute trust in human beings for our salvation, no matter what dignity they have. Human beings are changeable. Today they are saints, tomorrow—deniers. Today—sinners, tomorrow—righteous. We must have absolute trust in God, and in Him we must base our hopes of salvation. “Blessed is he of whom the God of Jacob is his help, whose hope is in the Lord his God” (Psalm 145:5). Saints Peter and Paul Orthodox Mission, Tucson, Arizona

Saints Peter and Paul Orthodox Church is a beautiful mission parish near downtown Tucson, a city in southern Arizona. It was started in 1997 by Father John Bockman, who was a missionary Priest formerly serving missions in Tennessee and Massachusetts since 1990. Father John served the faithful in Tucson and the surrounding area in his home Chapel until his repose in November of 2000. His wife, Presbytera Valerie, continued to make her home Chapel available for the mission, with clergy from Saint Nectarios Orthodox Church in Seattle and His Eminence, Metropolitan Moses of Toronto (then of Portland), visiting to provide the Divine Services.

Why do we Call Angels “Saint”?

Q. I noticed that we call the angels Michael and Gabriel "Saint." I thought the title "Saint" was only given to humans who have proven themselves Godly. Do you mind clarifying this for me? Is there a deeper meaning to "Saint" that I am not aware of?
