On the weekend of September 7-8 (20-21), 2008, our new missionary community dedicated to the Nativity of the Holy Theotokos in Greenville, North Carolina, celebrated its first cycle of services.
On Saturday evening, Fr Anastasios Hudson from St Mark the Evangelist Mission in Raleigh traveled to Greenville and celebrated Vespers. He gave a short talk afterward about the feast day.
On Sunday, September 8/21, Fr Anastasios, his presbytera, and a parishoner traveled to Greenville, NC to celebrate Matins and the Divine Liturgy. After the services, a festal potluck was enjoyed by the community.
Why do we follow the Old Orthodox Calendar?
a Because based on it, the First Ecumenical Council established the Paschal Canon and appointed that the feast of Holy Pascha may fall anywhere from March 22nd until April 25th, while with the New (Papal) Calendar it can fall as late at May 8th.
